Dhruv Rathee Summoned by Delhi Court in Defamation Case Filed by BJP Leader
YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has received a summons from a Delhi court about a defamation lawsuit brought by a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Rathee referred to him as a “violent and abusive” troll in a video that was posted on his YouTube channel on July 7, according to Suresh Karamshi Nakhua, a BJP representative for Mumbai.
On July 19, Saket Court district judge Gunjan Gupta issued an order summoning Dhruv Rathee. In addition, the court listed the case for hearing on August 6 and gave Rathee notice of Nakhua’s request for temporary relief.
“Issue a summons of suit and notice of application pursuant to 39 Rule 1 and 2 CPC to the defendants, subject to actions taken by all authorized courier, speed post, PF & RC, approved courier, and electronic means for August 6, 2024. In its ruling, the court stated, “Process be also granted dasti, as prayed.”
Nakhua said in his plea that Rathee was a member of “violent and abusive trolls” and that he “made bold and unsubstantiated claims” in a video. He went on to say that the accusations have no “rhyme or reason” and are likely to damage his reputation.
“That this skilfully produced film exposes a calculated campaign to damage Plaintiff Suresh Karamshi Nakhua’s integrity and reputation by skillfully hinting at nefarious ties and unfounded charges. The main author of this film, the Plaintiff, has sowed seeds of suspicion and mistrust that could have far-reaching effects. He aims to undermine the Plaintiff’s hard-earned reputation in society as well as to cast doubt on his character.
