MS Dhoni Receives Unusual Advice Amid Fitness Concerns Ahead of IPL 2024

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, is expected to make a spectacular comeback to competitive cricket in the Indian Premier League of 2024. On March 23, Dhoni will make his eagerly anticipated return to the field when his team plays Royal Challengers Bangalore in the league’s inaugural game in Chennai. The legendary Indian player had a difficult few months before his comeback. After undergoing knee surgery the previous year, there were a lot of rumors about his availability to play in the 2024 edition. The 42-year-old Dhoni defied the odds by joining the CSK camp earlier this month, but playing more will only cause his knees to deteriorate more.

Because of this, Dhoni’s old CSK teammate Ambati Rayudu has offered a novel recommendation for the wicketkeeper-batter to make sure he stays healthy for extended periods and is still available for the team when it matters most. In an appearance on Star Sports’ “Press Room,” Rayudu stated, “With the impact player rule, he can take a back seat and promote someone to captain their side in the middle.”

“So, if this is his final season, CSK may go through a transitional year. If he chooses to play for a few more years, though, I believe he would be the captain. I hope he sees himself as a captain. Regarding whether the 2024 edition would be his final in the league, Dhoni has not made any comments. After leading the Super Kings to a record-tying fifth championship last year, it was thought that the legendary player from India would hang up his boots. However, Dhoni is far from done.

Will play even if 10% fit

Given that Dhoni played through a “very bad knee injury” during the 2023 season, Rayudu said that Dhoni will play for CSK even if he is just “10%” healthy. “I believe that if he has made the decision to play this season and is even 10% fit, he will play the entire season. Knowing him, an injury won’t prevent him from playing, and he has played through a lot of injuries. I don’t think anything will prevent him from playing the entire season, considering he was playing through a pretty serious knee injury even last season, said Rayudu.
