Delhi the ‘Crime Capital’: Arvind Kejriwal Urges Amit Shah to Address Law and Order Concerns
AAP convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting a meeting to discuss the escalating law and order issues in Delhi. Kejriwal requested because, despite the central government’s authority over law and order, the city is increasingly being regarded as the “crime capital” both domestically and internationally.
Kejriwal voiced his concerns in his letter, pointing to concerning data that shows Delhi’s crime rates are on the rise. In terms of murder cases and crimes against women, the city currently leads India’s 19 largest metropolises. In addition, he reported a startling 350 percent increase in drug-related crimes, a notable surge in extortion gangs, and bomb threats against schools and airports, all of which have raised citizens’ anxieties about their safety.
In his letter to Home Minister Shah, that’s what Kejriwal expressed that even though Delhi’s rule of peace and law is under the Central Government, the city is currently alluded to as the capital of crime. Delhi has the most noteworthy pace of murders and wrongdoings against ladies, and coercion groups are working all over the city. Bomb dangers are being shipped off schools and air terminals, while drug-related violations have expanded by 350%, making people extremely afraid.
Beyond just criticizing the BJP and Amit Shah, Kejriwal went beyond the figures. Earlier this week, he declared, “Amit Shah ji has ruined Delhi,” accusing Shah of abandoning the nation’s capital’s peace and order. Because to him, Delhi is now a jungle raj. People are terrified everywhere. Delhi’s law and order situation has gotten out of hand for the BJP. The people of Delhi need to get together and voice up.
After a slew of bomb threats in Delhi’s schools, Kejriwal pressed Amit Shah for clarification on the safety precautions being taken. “The people of the capital must be protected by the government. In a social media post, he asked, “Has anyone been arrested in connection with these threats?” The AAP’s official X account shared a photo of Union Home Minister Amit Shah with the caption, “Seeing Delhi bleeding, Mogambo is happy,” alluding to Amit Shah’s offensive comments. Kejriwal’s dissatisfaction with the national government’s handling of Delhi’s security concerns was highlighted in this post.

A comprehensive reaction plan, including a careful Standard Working Method (SOP) to deal with bomb dangers and different emergencies, should be created by the Delhi Government and Delhi Police, as per the Delhi High Court’s decision. Given how urgent it is to address the state of law and order in the capital, the court has given these actions an eight-week deadline to be finished.
