Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Set to Meet L-G Tomorrow, Expected to Tender Resignation

The Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, who is sitting on an indefinite hunger strike at the Raj Ghat since March 13 demanding full statehood for Delhi, will meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena today at 4:30 PM, during which he is likely to submit his resignation, reported.

While confirming the development, AAP said Kejriwal has sought an audience with the L-G and is expected to formally submit his resignation.

This comes a day after Kejriwal announced that he would resign as chief minister and not resume office till the time people gave him a “certificate of honesty”.

He had said he would then get back to work, only after successfully coming out of this “agnipariksha” or test of fire.

Kejriwal made his decision a few days after the Supreme Court’s decision to release him on bail from Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with the corruption case involving the Delhi excise policy.

Following this event, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj announced that the legislative party would have a conference shortly to choose a new leader.

The unanimously elected candidate will stake their claim before the President through the Lieutenant Governor. According to Bharadwaj, he was confident that the election process will be completed within a week. He reassured that the MLAs are supportive of the party’s transition at the leadership.

Bharadwaj reiterated further: “Kejriwal is confident that the people will support him. He is unabashedly honest to a fault.” He added, “The people are waiting for elections in Delhi to see Kejriwal come back as their Chief Minister.”
