Delhi Capitals’ Rishabh Pant Fined INR 12 Lakh for IPL Code of Conduct Breach in Win Over CSK
After the Delhi Capitals were found guilty of violating the Code of Conduct during their Sunday IPL 2024 encounter against the Chennai Super Kings at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, skipper Rishabh Pant was hit with a hefty punishment. After back-to-back home victories, the reigning champions suffered their first loss of the season under new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, while Pant guided Delhi to their first victory of 2024 following back-to-back road defeats.
After his team’s slow overrate was maintained during their match versus CSK, Pant was fined. Pant was fined ₹12 lakhs because it was his team’s first breach of the season about minimum over-rate offenses under the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
This was the second time that an IPL team captain had been penalized for having a slow overrate during a game. Shubman Gill of the Gujarat Titans met a similar end when he was also fined INR 12 lakh for the same offense during last Tuesday’s IPL 2024 match at Chennai’s Chidambaram Stadium against the Chennai Super Kings.
However, Pant turned in a standout performance at bat, recording his first-ever fifty in the Indian Premier League. He had to miss the 2023 competition since he was recovering from a near-fatal vehicle accident in December 2022. After Prithvi Shaw and David Warner put up an incredible 93-run partnership in which the Australian reached his fifty-first century, Pant gave the Delhi Capitals hope with his 32-ball 51 as they set a target of 192.
Ajinkya Rahane spearheaded the middle-order assault with his 30-ball 45 while the Chennai top-order faltered. Then, with an incredible display of his own, India’s great MS Dhoni turned back time with an undefeated 37 off 16. Nevertheless, CSK was only able to reach 171 for six as the hosts prevailed by 20 runs thanks to an outstanding recovery by the Delhi Capitals bowlers in the closing stages.

It was Delhi’s first victory of the season following defeats to the Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings in their debut. However, after dominating in Chepauk, where they won their opening two games against Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Chennai suffered their first setback.
