No Life Should Be Lost Like This’: UPSC Aspirant’s Uncle Speaks Out After 3 Students Drown in Delhi IAS Coaching Center Basement

The basement of a tutoring center in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar neighborhood flooded on Saturday night, killing three aspirants to the civil service. The victims were identified as Tanya Soni from Telangana, Nevin Dalvin from Kerala, and Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh. Nevin Dalvin, 28, a Keralan IAS candidate from Ernakulam, was one of the victims. Nevin had been residing in Delhi for around eight months as he attended Jawaharlal Nehru University to complete his doctorate. On Saturday, at around ten in the morning, he had gone to the basement library, not realizing the impending calamity.

Linu Raj, Nevin’s uncle, who had traveled to Delhi to retrieve his nephew’s remains, spoke with CNN News 18. I spent the night here. I identified Nevin’s body at the Rajinder Nagar police station. Linu Raj said, his voice thick with grief, “The postmortem will begin today at 10 am, and later this evening, I will take him with me. Raj gave Nevin’s character more thought, calling him a pleasant and intelligent student whose sudden passing has shocked the family to no end. “His parents are still processing his passing. He continued, emphasizing the tragedy’s lasting effects on the family: “Nevin’s mother is in the hospital due to high blood pressure.”

Linu Raj demanded institutional improvements to stop similar tragedies in the future when questioned about the family’s demands in light of this tragedy. “Such events ought to be completely avoided. He declared vehemently, “The government should ensure that no life is wasted in this manner. Raj also emphasized the significance of refraining from assigning blame. “I take no responsibility for this. My only hope is that these kinds of things don’t happen again. He urged for prompt action to address safety concerns and communal accountability, saying, “We need to understand and rectify issues on the ground because we are all humans.”
