David Warner Ruled Out of New Zealand Tour, Expected to be fit for IPL
David Warner is likely to be fit when the IPL 2024 begins next month, but he will miss the final Twenty20 International match against New Zealand in Auckland owing to an adductor injury. As part of Australia’s rotation plan for the series, he was rested for the second Twenty20 International on Friday.
“Warner will require a brief recovery period which is not expected to affect his availability for the upcoming Indian Premier League leading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” said a statement from CA.
It is anticipated that Warner would recover in seven to ten days. Warner’s career as a bilateral international player comes to an end with his absence from the series finale; he will retire from Australia’s Australian team in time for the T20 World Cup in June. He made 32 runs off of 20 balls in the opening game in Wellington before the home fans heckled him off the field, which brought up memories of the crowd behavior from the 2016 tour that Warner had previously discussed.
Steven Smith now has another chance to establish himself at the top of the lineup and possibly lock down a spot in the World Cup team thanks to Warner’s absence. In the second T20I, Smith scored 11 runs off 7 balls in a short while, including an outrageous soaring six before he was dismissed lbw by Lockie Ferguson’s first delivery. Despite Smith’s prospects, it doesn’t appear likely that he will start for his country at the World Cup; Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, and Warner are most likely to take the first three slots.

Matt Short is anticipated to make another appearance. He participated in the first Wellington encounter but did not contribute with the bat or the ball. There’s a chance Matthew Wade will assume leadership in the event Mitch Marsh is rested before the Test series. After playing in the previous two games, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are also expected to be rested for Sunday’s match; Mitchell Starc and Spencer Johnson are expected to fill in as replacements.
