Dale Steyn Advises ‘Put Aside Ego’ for MI Camp Amid Hardik Pandya’s Captaincy Appointment

Dale Steyn Advises ‘Put Aside Ego’ for MI Camp Amid Hardik Pandya’s Captaincy Appointment

Dale Steyn stated that Hardik Pandya’s return to the Mumbai Indians with the added burden of team captaincy will be a significant challenge.

Dale Steyn, a seasoned pacer from South Africa, shared his thoughts on the shift in leadership styles at the Mumbai Indians camp ahead of the next IPL season. The Mumbai Indians made a significant move when they acquired Hardik Pandya back for the team following the shocking IPL Players’ Auction. The Gujarat Titans were led by Hardik to consecutive finals appearances in the previous two seasons and to victory in the 2022 tournament.

The Mumbai-based team also significantly altered their leadership group when they named Hardik as their new captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma, who guided them to joint-most five league titles.

Steyn stated that Hardik’s return to Mumbai, this time as the captain, will be extremely difficult. The legend of Proteas pace believes that if there are any conflicts among the team after Hardik took over as captain instead of Rohit, he could be able to resolve them during the training camp.

“I believe the entire dynamic of departing from and returning to Mumbai would be difficult. I hope a month prior to the IPL, they had some kind of camp. Therefore, before the first game, whatever that’s upsetting anyone gets worked out,” the former fast bowler was cited by PTI.

Dale Steyn Praises Mumbai Indians’ Ability to Manage Egos

According to a few sources, Hardik’s hiring did not sit well with some of the Mumbai team’s more experienced players. Steyn, meanwhile, asserted that the major players understand how to set aside their egos and cooperate for the benefit of the team.

“You’ve got big personalities, guys who have done the decision-making before and now in a different role.”That might be the minuscule needle we can’t see or hear on TV. But these international cricketers know how to put aside their egos, therefore I think Mumbai will be fine,” he went on.

Hardik Pandya and other fresh talent have already joined Mumbai’s training camp in preparation for the forthcoming season. Soon, Rohit Sharma and a few more well-known players will report to camp. At Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the five-time champions will open their season on March 24 against Pandya’s former team, the Gujarat Titans.
