IPL Fandom Analysis: Which Team Commands the Highest Fan Loyalty
The team with the most “fandom” is the Chennai Super Kings of the Indian Premier League. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finished a long way down the list at the end of the 16th season of the cricket competition, while Mumbai Indians were the second favorite, according to a new analysis by Rediffusion’s Red Lab, which monitors consumer behavior. The business claimed to have interviewed, met, and interacted with roughly 1,200 supporters of each of the 10 participating teams during the previous two months to measure and analyze fan activity across all teams.
The victorious team of this year, CSK, scored 79%, while MI only scored 72%. RCB lagged at 61%. Gujarat Titans, one of the new clubs, came in fifth with a 58% score, just one point behind Kolkata Knight Riders’ 59%. The least popular teams according to the rankings were the Delhi Capitals at 37% and Sunrisers Hyderabad at 32%. “The Indian Premier League has been around for 16 years, which gives fans ample opportunity to establish strong bonds, form their own opinions, and make decisions.” with a team or remain neutral,” states Sandeep Goyal, the company’s managing director.

The proportion of non-Chennai fans of CSK is approximately 42%. Therefore, a person’s location or affiliation with a city does not determine their loyalty. Fans who have a strong connection to and liking for CSK largely credit MS Dhoni for it (72%). Virat Kohli scored higher for RCB with 51%, while Rohit Sharma at MI scored less at 23%. It claimed that the person who self-identifies as a team fan calculates the team’s “fandom” first. The initial level of belongingness involves monitoring the performance or scoring of one’s preferred team. The next layer is watching the team matches on TV or following their live play on the internet. It was stated that other evidence included the team and its players conversing with friends and family, purchasing goods, and attending games at the stadium.
