CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan Unveils Owner’s Approach to Selecting Potential Successor for MS Dhoni

The CEO of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kasi Viswanathan, provided insight into the internal debate around MS Dhoni’s possible replacement inside the team. He disclosed that the owner, N Srinivasan, had instructed the captain and coach to “leave it to the coach” when determining who would succeed Captain Cool.

Following his record-tying fifth title with the Chennai Super Kings last year, Dhoni dispelled rumours of his impending retirement by announcing that he would play for the team for at least one more season despite suffering a knee injury.

The CEO of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kasi Viswanathan, provided insight into the internal debate around MS Dhoni’s possible replacement inside the team. He disclosed that the owner, N Srinivasan, had instructed the captain and coach to “leave it to the coach” when determining who would succeed Captain Cool.

“You see, there have been discussions within. However, Mr. Srinivasan has clarified everything. We won’t discuss the selection of the captain and vice-captain. Let the captain and the coach make that decision. After they make a decision and provide me the information, I will give it to you all. CSK CEO Viswanathan informed S Badrinath on his YouTube show, “He has said that ‘the captain and the coach will decide and give us a directive, till then let’s all keep quiet.’”

Ravindra Jadeja was given leadership duties by CSK for the 2022 season, however the all-around player resigned from the position following a run of unsatisfactory performances, returning Dhoni to the position.

Regarding CSK’s readiness for the forthcoming campaign, Viswanathan said that the Men in Yellow are looking forward to another strong IPL showing.

“Our goal has always been to advance to the knockout stage. That is our primary goal. After that, it will rely on how well they do that day. Even now, we are still doing that. Every season, MS Dhoni advises us to “first focus on league games.” Our goal is to get into the knockout stages. It’s true that there is pressure. However, most of the players have been accustomed to this pressure over time due to our consistency,” he continued.

On March 22, CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore will play their season opener at M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
