Cristiano Ronaldo Makes History with Free-Kick Masterclass as He Nears 900 Career Goals

Cristiano Ronaldo furthered his case for being considered one of the greatest footballers the world has ever seen when he lifted Al Nassr to whip Al Feiha 4-1 with a magical free-kick goal. The great talisman—who in the past years has picked up criticism for his poor free-kick conversion—proved critics wrong with what can be called a goal of good onus, which proved to be his 899th in a career. It was a dipping strike at the bottom corner, perfeclty pegged. It does not only mark another goal, but also a historic one.

With that strike, Ronaldo is now left with 900 career goals. He also is one strike away from equally tying with his closest rival over the years, Lionel Messi, on 65 in the free-kicks goals record.

However, it is no free kick, but statistics revealed that this was a goal for the history books, with Ronaldo turning up to be the first footballer ever to score a free kick in 23 seasons under his belt. Since his professional debut in 2002 with Sporting Club de Portugal, Ronaldo has constantly set the mark in goals from set pieces, and this situation is not different at this point; thus, he is a constant threat in more than two decades. This latest victory further confirms what the rest of a stellar career had already guaranteed: his legendary status among the greats.

And at 39, still defying all logic, Ronaldo shows his vigour and his great skill. However, he said he is 100% committed to his deal with Al Nassr and even hinted that he may retire with the Saudi club in the next 2-3 years. “Anyway, I don’t know, maybe to retire soon, in two or three years I think, but probably I will retire here in Al-Nassr. I’m very happy at this club, I feel good in this country too. “I am very happy to be able to play in Saudi Arabia, and I want to continue,” Ronaldo unveiled in an interview with NOW, translated by Fabrizio Romano.

As much as Ronaldo has been a top individual achiever, he has not won any major trophies with Al Nassr until now. Four times runner-up in competitions like the Super Cup of Saudi Arabia, King’s Cup, and two Pro League of Saudi Arabia finishes with the Saudis, the Portuguese icon is still as hungry for success as ever in this quest for a first major title with Al-Nasr.
