Conduct Polygraph Test on Mamata Banerjee’: BJP Demands Accountability in Kolkata Rape-Murder Case

The Bharatiya Janata Party has levelled serious charges on the West Bengal Chief Minister, stating that she was protecting rapists and murderers in the recent incident of rape and murder in Kolkata of a doctor inside the premises of RG Kar Hospital.

The party has demanded a polygraph test for Banerjee along with Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goel with regard to the recent violent crackdown on protesters by police.

The BJP came down heavily on the state administration for the way it had handled the situation; the BJP national spokesperson, Gaurav Bhatia, categorically termed the actions of Banerjee as ‘dictatorial’ and sought her resignation. Bhatia criticized the police response to the protests, which had involved lathi-charges and tear gas and water cannons.

Saying the incidents in West Bengal were deeply disturbing, calling it a collapse of the Constitution, Bhatia said in a news conference at New Delhi that the police commissioner misrepresented the crime into a suicide, which itself demanded immediate resignation, while the finding called for bigger investigation.

The Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, strongly criticized the police for brutal tactics at the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ rally, saying that their moves went against ordinary protestors. Adhikari even threatened to make things worse if the brutalities by the state administration do not stop.

The state administration has made the situation go from bad to worse. Many of the protestors have sustained injuries. Unless the police commissioner and the DGP address our grievances, we will have to go for subsequent measures. We have supported the Chhatra Samaj movement and will always be spearheading their movement, Adhikari said.
