India Reacts to ‘Absurd’ Chinese Claim Over Arunachal Pradesh: ‘Repeating Baseless Arguments…

China’s “absurd claims” regarding Arunachal Pradesh were dismissed by the Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday, with the statement that “repeating baseless arguments in this regard does not lend such claims any validity.”Arunachal Pradesh will always be an integral and indispensable part of India, according to a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal In response to questions from the media on comments made by Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, the spokesperson for the Chinese Defense Ministry, who reaffirmed Beijing’s claim to Arunachal Pradesh and referred to the region as an “inherent part of China’s territory,” Jaiswal made his statement.

Zhang responded to a question regarding India’s improvement of its military readiness through the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh by saying that Beijing “never acknowledges and firmly opposes” the “so-called Arunachal Pradesh illegally established by India” and that the southern portion of Xizang, the Chinese name for Tibet, is an inherent part of China’s territory. On March 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the country the 13,000-foot Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh. This tunnel would allow Tawang, which is strategically positioned, to be accessible year-round and is anticipated to improve military operations near the border.

Zhand was cited by the official media as saying, “We require the Indian side to cease any action that may complicate the boundary question and earnestly maintain peace and stability in the border areas.” China regularly objects to trips by Indian politicians to Arunachal Pradesh to accentuate its claims, as it regards the state as South Tibet. The region is also known as Zangnan in Beijing. It has been reported that the Chinese Defense Ministry spokeswoman made statements asserting ludicrous claims over the Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh’s territory. In this regard, repeating baseless arguments lends no credence to such accusations, Jaiswal said in a statement. “Arunachal Pradesh is and always has been an essential and unalienable component of India.” He went on, “Our development initiatives and infrastructure initiatives will keep its people well-served.”
