BookMyShow Files Police Complaint Over Fake Ticket Sales for Coldplay’s India Concerts
Coldplay, the UK rock group, have decided to perform another concert in Mumbai as part of their world tour after huge demand for tickets. Fans had complained about long waits online with BookMyShow, an authorized seller for this event. In response to an overwhelming public clamor, the band added a further date; all three shows sold out within hours despite ongoing technical problems experienced by some users.
Bookmyshow said on Monday night it had asked police to investigate a “large-scale violation” by unknown actors who were selling match seats at prices much higher than face value. The booking agency also stressed they do not condone such behavior.
BookMyShow on Ticket Selling/Reselling Platforms
The website and app of BookMyShow encountered major obstacles because of a traffic surge. This created technical problems and meant there were few tickets available for Coldplay concerts in January 2025. As if that wasn’t enough, the platform noted that tickets were appearing at inflated prices on sites like Viagogo and Gigsberg, with sellers demanding vastly more than the official cost.
On Tuesday (X date), BookMyShow published a further post saying again that it hates scalping and asking people not to buy from unofficial sources. There are dangers beyond being ripped off, they warned: counterfeit tickets could also leave you out of pocket. The company added that it had complained to police and remained committed to stopping this kind of crime. “We want to make it clear,” said an official statement from BookMyShow, “that we have nothing to do with any resale websites, including Viagogo and Gigsberg, or individuals acting as third parties selling Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour 2025 tickets in India.”
‘Scalping is strictly condemned and punishable.’
The platform made it clear that scalping is not allowed and is against the law in India. They went to the police about it and said they would help them investigate. Fans should watch out for scams: if people buy tickets from anywhere other than the usual places, the tickets might be fake.

When Coldplay announced they were going to do concerts in India in January 2025, lots of people wanted to go. There was so much demand for tickets that the website selling them crashed; at the same time, there were long queues just to get onto the site. On social media, disappointed fans complained about not being able to get tickets; some big names also said they hadn’t been successful, including film director Karan Johar.
