BJP Demands Apology from Rahul Gandhi After SC Rejects NEET-UG Cancellation

The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was charged by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday of sowing disbelief in the Indian test system following the purported NEET-UG paper leak in many locations. After the Supreme Court’s ruling on the issue, they questioned whether he would issue an apology. The court denied the pleas on Tuesday to postpone the exam and conduct a new one, citing a lack of evidence of a “systemic breach” that would have jeopardized the test’s integrity. The court pointed out that the leak was limited to a few cities.

BJP leader and former cabinet minister Ravi Shankar Prasad chastised Gandhi and the opposition after the verdict. Gandhi used terms like “fraud” to disparage the exam as a whole, but the court made it clear that there was no systematic violation of the exam’s integrity, according to Prasad. He questioned, “Will Rahul Gandhi apologise…?” asserting that there had been such paper leaks under Congress-led administrations.

Gandhi was also charged of undermining India’s international standing through his critical remarks regarding the examination system. Prasad said Gandhi denigrated Parliament and his position as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha with his remarks. The BJP leader defended the government’s NEET policy, stating that 155 examinees’ candidatures had been canceled and that the Central Bureau of inquiry (CBI) had been given control of the inquiry.

In order to highlight the exam’s scope, he mentioned that more than 23.5 lakh students took it at 4,750 locations in 571 cities. He added that in order to stop document leaks, the Modi administration has passed a strict law. Prasad responded, dismissing Gandhi’s charge that the 2024 budget was a “kursi bachao budget” and saying that it was not the fault of the BJP if voters had consistently voted against Gandhi and his party in previous assemblies.
