Ishan Kishan Declines BCCI’s Redemption Offer in England Test Series Before Dhruv Jurel’s Heroics: Report”
Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were not included in the BCCI’s yearly retainers because they had disregarded the board’s directives to play in the current Ranji Trophy season on several occasions. It appears, though, that Ishan was given a chance at redemption by the board around the time BCCI secretary Jay Shah sent a letter to centrally contracted players telling them not to put the IPL ahead of domestic cricket. Dhruv Jurel then took advantage of Ishan’s absence to produce a brilliant performance in Ranchi and help India win the five-match Test series against England. During the home T20I series against Australia in November 2023, Ishan made his last appearance for India. He withdrew from the South Africa tour in December, allegedly due to exhaustion related to his mental health. Following that, he was unable to play in the home Twenty20 International match against Afghanistan. This was followed by discussions about his potential return for the England Test series, as the management was reluctant to keep KL Rahul as their wicketkeeper-batter on the fast-moving surfaces.
India’s head coach Rahul Dravid stated that Ishan needs to make himself accessible first and demonstrate his eligibility by getting some playing time when he wasn’t selected for the series. The former batter for India continued by saying that Ishan and the management have constantly communicated. According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, the Indian team management offered Ishan a chance to prove himself in spite of Dravid’s remarks by including him in the Test squad for the series against England. The 25-year-old, however, turned it down, claiming he wasn’t ready yet.

The timing of the request is unclear in the report, but it is most likely that the Indian team made it after Rahul was declared ineligible for the second Test match due to management’s dismal run of form with the bat for KS Bharat. After the series’ first two games, the latter was dropped from the starting lineup, while Jurel made his debut in Rajkot. In the third Test, the 23-year-old displayed flashes of his skills with the bat and in the gloves. He then helped India win the series in Ranchi by smashing a game-winning century. Jurel’s virgin In the fourth Test, Test fifty enabled India to cut the first-inning deficit to 46 runs. He then patiently scored 39 runs without conceding a wicket in the second innings, leading India to a five-wicket victory. Because of his efforts, Jurel was declared the Player of the Match.
