BCCI Considers Dubai for IPL 2024 Second Half Amid General Elections: Reports

BCCI Considers Dubai for IPL 2024 Second Half Amid General Elections: Reports

Authorities from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are considering moving the second half of the IPL to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It’s particularly difficult for BCCI to find a solution and host the complete tournament in India because of the approaching General Elections; as a result, there’s a chance that the event will move to the UAE for the third time in its history.

Notably, BCCI hosted the first part of the IPL in the UAE in 2014 because to the General Elections, and in 2020, the entire tournament was held there because of an increase in COVID-19 cases in India. Though there hasn’t been an official confirmation on the matter, an intriguing development has sparked rumors.
IPL teams reportedly requested that their players turn in their passports. This demonstrates that BCCI is remaining open-minded prior to the Election Commissioner’s March 16 announcement of the dates.

“On Saturday at 3 p.m., the Indian Election Commission will declare the election timetable. The BCCI will next determine whether or not to shift the IPL matches to Dubai. A few senior BCCI executives are currently in Dubai investigating the idea of holding the IPL’s second half there, according to reports.

First Half Schedule Released, Possibility of UAE Shift for Second Half

The dates for the first half of the IPL schedule were revealed on February 22, but because The Election Commission of India had not yet released the information, BCCI was unable to proceed. The match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore is scheduled to begin on March 22 at M Chidambaram Stadium. Meanwhile, the final first-leg encounter between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants is scheduled for April 7.

If the IPL moves to the United Arab Emirates for its second half, there may be a pause after that. Even if it moves to the Gulf nation in the interim, there’s a remote chance that it will return to India for the competition’s final round. But for now, it’s only an idea, and the actual talks won’t happen until the Election Commissioner releases the dates.
