This ancient tradition, founded by the 13th-century Sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliyā and his follower Amir Khusro, remains a symbol of unity and cultural heritage.
Historical Significance
Basant Panchami festival is an ancient custom at the Darga which has been existence according to the Islamic mystic Hazart Nizamuddin Auliya time. Legend has it that after the death of his favourite nephew Taqiuddin the saint was plunged into deep mourning. Encouraging the mood of his disciple, Amir Khusro, dressed in yellow and provided mustard flowers to him. This gesture not only cheered the saint, but also gave birth to the tradition of. celebrations at the dargah.
Festivities at the Dargah
On this auspicious day, devotees offer yellow flowers and a yellow sheet at the tombs of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya and Amir Khusro. The dargah is adorned with yellow marigolds, and visitors don yellow attire, symbolizing joy and new beginnings. A special Sufi Qawwali session, known as “Khusro ki Basant,” is organized, where renowned qawwals perform spiritual melodies in tribute to the divine.
