West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has framed a seven-part group to survey the three new criminal regulations: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanita, 2023 (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA).
The group will audit the regulations and propose corrections within three months of the notification, which was issued on July 16. The seven individuals are Equity (resigned) Ashim Kumar Roy, Resigned Judge, Calcutta High Court and Lokayukta, West Bengal; Malay Ghatak, MIC, Regulation Office, Legal Division, and Work Office; Chandrima Bhattacharyya, MOS (IC), Money Office, Wellbeing and Family Government Assistance Division, and Ld. Advocate General, West Bengal; Sanjay Basu, Ld. Sr. Standing Insight for Bengal, High Court; Chief General and Controller General of Police, West Bengal; and Magistrate of Police, Kolkata.
Banerjee, who has been restricting BNS, had previously written to state leader Narendra Modi to concede the execution of the new regulations. Taking note of the fact the fact that a few MPs were suspended the day the regulations were passed, the TMC boss said in the letter that they ought to be surveyed before execution.
