Atishi’s First Reaction as Delhi CM: ‘Thank You, Guru Arvind Kejriwal’
The new Chief Minister of Delhi, AAP leader Atishi thanked her political mentor Arvind Kejriwal for entrusting her with such a huge responsibility.
In her first reaction to AAP’s decision to make her Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi said she felt mixed emotions when Arvind Kejriwal resigned as Chief Minister.
Arvind Kejriwal, who was granted bail in the Delhi excise policy case last week, had announced on Sunday that he would resign within 48 hours.
He said he would then reconsider the chief minister post only after securing a “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi while demanding that the Election Commission conduct the Delhi assembly election in November.
So, the political graph of Atishi has been declared officially with AAP announcing her appointment. “I owe my deepest thanks to my guru, Arvind Kejriwal, for entrusting me with this monumental task,” she said.
“In AAP, even a first-time politician like me can become the CM. I come from a regular family. If I had been with any other party, I wouldn’t have even received a poll ticket.”
Atishi went ahead to acknowledge Kejriwal’s contribution in her rise within the party and credited him for making her an MLA and a minister. “Arvind Kejriwal put his faith in me.
He made me an MLA, a minister, and today he has given me the responsibility to lead as CM. While I’m honoured by the trust he has shown, I am deeply saddened that my elder brother, Arvind Kejriwal, is resigning.”
Emphasising how Kejriwal was irreplaceable, she said, “Delhi has only one CM, and his name is Arvind Kejriwal.” Atishi said this on behalf of AAP MLAs and the people of Delhi.
Atishi has been one of the most prolific faces of AAP, particularly during times when the going got tough with the party’s high-profile leaders such as Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh facing corruption charges.
When all these leaders were busy fighting court cases, Atishi was busy assuming charge of crucial portfolios and leading from the front to defend AAP’s policies against opposition by the BJP.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 11 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court, subject to the condition that he would not return to the Chief Minister’s office. The BJP alleged that Kejriwal’s decision to resign flowed from the Supreme Court’s restrictions.
