Atishi to Take Oath as Delhi Chief Minister on September 21: AAP Announces New Cabinet Ceremony

Atishi to Take Oath as Delhi Chief Minister on September 21: AAP Announces New Cabinet Ceremony

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declared on Thursday that Atishi, the incoming chief minister of Delhi, and her cabinet members would take the oath of office on September 21. Atishi alone was supposed to take the oath at first, but it was later announced that her entire council of ministers would also do so.

This occurs following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation on Tuesday as Delhi’s chief minister. After he resigned, Atishi declared her intention to establish a new government in the nation’s capital.

The AAP’s choice to formally swear in the new government on September 21 is in line with Lieutenant Governor of Delhi V K Saxena’s suggestion.

A Low-Key Oath Ceremony

The ruling AAP is organizing a more somber oath ceremony, which is probably going to happen at Raj Niwas, in response to Kejriwal’s resignation.

In an effort to live more like a regular citizen, the party has declared that Kejriwal will vacate the Chief Minister’s official residence and give up his security detail within 15 days.

According to reports, Atishi has said that she is having a “sad moment” and asked AAP leaders and members not to celebrate. The formal resignation of departing Chief Minister Kejriwal has been forwarded to President Murmu for his approval.

Atishi’s Council of Ministers

There is growing conjecture regarding Atishi’s council of ministers as she gets ready to assume leadership as the new chief minister of Delhi.

According to AAP sources, ministers in Kejriwal’s previous government, including Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain, will continue to hold their roles. Two more party MLAs are anticipated to be added to the Cabinet.

The Delhi Assembly will hold a session on September 26–27, during which Atishi would have to demonstrate her majority. The Assembly’s current term expires in February 2024, and elections are scheduled for early in the following year.

BJP Criticizes AAP

In light of these events, the BJP has accused the AAP of misrepresenting its governance to the public and has renewed its criticism of the party.

The AAP has claimed that if the BJP takes over Delhi, they intend to stop important public welfare programs including free energy, mohalla clinics, and education.

Sanjay Singh, the head of the AAP, claimed that Kejriwal’s administration is committed to providing free healthcare, education, and power to citizens of Delhi.

He implied that if the BJP took over, it would stop providing these services. In response, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said that the AAP was misleading the public and that the Lieutenant Governor had already stated that the provision of free amenities such as water, power, and rations will not stop.
