Atishi Evicted from Delhi CM Residence? LG Office Denies, Claims ‘Trespassing’

Atishi Evicted from Delhi CM Residence? LG Office Denies, Claims of ‘Trespassing’

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was accused by the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Wednesday of forcing AAP leader Atishi out of his official home in Civil Lines. The CMO said that Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena had planned the action to give the property to a BJP leader.

The CMO released a statement stating that Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s possessions were taken from the home that her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal, had occupied. After Kejriwal left the bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road, Civil Lines, on Monday, Atishi moved her things in after he resigned as Chief Minister.

L-G Office Denies Allegations, Claims Illegal Occupation

The CMO’s allegations were refuted by sources from the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, who said that the bungalow was never formally recognized as the Chief Minister of Delhi’s home. The source claimed that anyone might be given ownership of the property and charged Atishi with trespassing by not having the right permission to be there.

Atishi violated the property at 6 Flagstaff Road. Despite her appeal to the Public Works Department (PWD), the bungalow was never assigned to her, according to a source in the L-G office. The insider further stated that legal action against trespassing was within the purview of the property’s legitimate owner.

AAP Accuses BJP of Trying to ‘Capture’ CM Residence

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh responded to the incident by accusing the BJP of attempting to “usurp” the Chief Minister’s home. Atishi, according to Singh, had not yet received the bungalow’s formal allocation but had nevertheless established a camp office and started holding meetings there. He also said that the BJP was trying to seize control of the chief minister’s mansion, calling the party’s tactics “cheap politics” given that it had not been successful in winning elections in Delhi for 27 years.

The Lieutenant Governor was also chastised by AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar, who asserted that election victory is a prerequisite for anyone to hold the position of Chief Minister. Kakkar claimed, “The BJP is now attempting to seize the residence as they are not winning elections.”

BJP Demands Sealing of Bungalow

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly and BJP leader Vijender Gupta responded by demanding that the property be sealed up right away. He questioned why Atishi, rather than the PWD, was given the keys to the bungalow after Kejriwal left and accused her of living there illegally.

Echoing Gupta’s remarks, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva made fun of the AAP for reportedly using the bungalow—dubbed “Arvind Kejriwal’s sheesh mahal”—without the appropriate authorization. He made references to unknown activities taking place on the premises and questioned why Kejriwal and Atishi were so adamant on staying in the residence.

Tensions between the AAP and BJP in Delhi are further heightened by the ongoing dispute and the accusatory exchanges between the two parties regarding the property.
