Arvind Kejriwal News: ED Opposes Delhi CM’s Bail in HC, Seeks Time for Reply
Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal, who is now incarcerated, filed a petition with the Delhi High Court contesting his detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money-laundering case involving the purported excise policy fraud. Hearing Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal, which calls for his immediate release due to the arrest and custody of the ED being “illegal,” is Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma. A Delhi court remanded the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the custody of the ED until March 28 “for his detailed and sustained interrogation” after the AAP leader was arrested on March 21. Kejriwal had filed a request with the court to revoke and set aside all actions taken against him, including summonses.
The BJP staged counter-protests demanding the resignation of the Delhi chief minister on Tuesday, while the AAP took to the streets over Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest. The party’s leaders and supporters attempted to march towards the prime minister’s home but were halted. Arvind Kejriwal also gave Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj his second directive throughout the day to address the lack of medications and diagnostic tests at the city’s hospitals and mohalla clinics. Bharadwaj was under ED custody.

What is the case against Arvind Kejriwal?
Following many references to him in the chargesheets concerning the excise policy issue, Arvind Kejriwal was placed under arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21. The task of asking alcohol dealers for bribes in exchange for favors falls to the AAP’s national convenor. He has additionally been charged by the ED with being the “kingpin and key conspirator” behind the now-canceled policy. At least 14 prominent AAP figures, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, have already been detained by the agency about the case, and the federal agency has petitioned the court for authorization to look into AAP’s role as a beneficiary of the “proceeds of crime.”. Kejriwal has refuted the allegations, claiming that the Centre, led by the BJP, is “manipulating investigative agencies for political motives.”.
