Arvind Kejriwal Sent to Judicial Custody Till July 12 in Excise Policy Case on CBI Plea

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was placed in judicial custody by a Delhi court on Saturday for a period of 14 days, or until July 12, to corruption charges involving purported anomalies in the excise policy for 2021–2022. About the matter, Kejriwal was taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 26. He spent three days in the custody of the CBI.

Kejriwal was already in judicial custody at the time of his detention about a money laundering case involving the purported excise policy fraud that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was looking into. Senior Advocate Vikram Chaudhary, who is defending Kejriwal, said the court during the Saturday session that the case has been under investigation since 2022.

Kejriwal was taken into custody in March 2024. The Supreme Court granted him temporary release. During the last hearing date, the CBI stated that they had gathered evidence in January and that they had received the sanctions in April. In addition, they said that they hadn’t detained me sooner since they didn’t want to overrule the Supreme Court, Chaudhary informed the judge. In addition, Chaudhary asked the court to order the CBI to document everything.

In a statement delivered to the Supreme Court, the CBI stated that the inquiry would be finished by July 3.I beseech you to ask the investigating officer, or IO, to take action so that your lordships can uncover the truth about what they are claiming. Manish Sisodia and K Kavitha, the head of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), are among the 17 defendants in the case that the CBI has filed four charge sheets. Not one of the indictments has referenced Kejriwal as of yet. They assert that ₹44.45 crore of the ₹100 crore in kickbacks that the AAP got was moved to Goa for election campaign purposes between June 2021 and January 2022 via “hawala channels.”
