Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Moves Confidence Motion Amid ED Summons
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, filed a motion on Friday asking for a vote of confidence in the legislature. The House has been adjourned till tomorrow to discuss this resolution. The National Capital Territory of Delhi’s seventh Legislative Assembly is now in its fifth budget session. The assembly motion was made a few days after the Aam Aadami Party (AAP) president was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for the sixth time about the continuing probe into the now-canceled liquor policy.
Kejriwal, who has denied any wrongdoing, claimed that law enforcement was used by the Bharatiya Janata Party to try and steal AAP MLAs and overthrow his administration. February 19 is suggested as Kejriwal’s appearance date with the federal investigative agency. He was previously called upon on February 2, January 18, January 3, December 21, and November 2, 2023.

The chief minister has always described these notices as “illegal.” The sixth summons comes after a Delhi court ordered Kejriwal to appear in response to an ED complaint, stating that the AAP president is “legally bound” to comply on the face of it. “A prima facie offense under Section 174 of the IPC is made out from the contents of the complaint and the material placed on record, and there are sufficient grounds for proceeding against accused Arvind Kejriwal†.”
The judge ordered that Arvind Kejriwal be summoned for the offense for February 17, 2024, under Section 174 of the IPC. Notably, prominent AAP figures Sanjay Singh, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain have all been imprisoned in money laundering investigations.
