Anupam Tripathi, with his performance in “Squid Game,” probably made the name well-known everywhere else in the world. Now he’s poised to make a mark in Indian cinema with the much-awaited “IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack” series on Netflix. Even though Anupam is yet to make a commercial screen presence in India, he has already performed in the South Korean entertainment industry, where big stars like Song Joong-ki and Kim Sun-ho are renowned.
Anupam’s relationship and projects with Song Joong-ki were realized in South Korea through three major projects: “Descendants of the Sun” (DotS), “Arthadal Chronicles,” and “Space Sweepers.” Though in DotS it was a small role, in the other two projects, Anupam had got substantial parts, and that’s where he came to bond with the South Korean superstar much better. After he had shared the experience, Anupam said, “On the sets of ‘Arthadal Chronicles,’ Song Joong-ki was always surprised by my knowledge of Korean. He used to say how good my Korean is… He does not have the pride of a star. He is very humble and kind.”
He is also all praises for another South Korean sensation, Kim Seon Ho. “Whenever we’ve met at premieres and events, we gel well. He’s a very joyful and friendly person,” Anupam shared during an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha.
Fans are waiting for Anupam’s first venture, “IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack,” and the actor opened up about his role in it.

The 13-part drama that will run on Netflix from later this month is based on the real-life hijacking of the IC 814 aircraft in 1999, when the flight kept shuttling to various airbases reportedly to take fuel and finally ended up in Kandahar, where Indian officials finally managed to negotiate the release of the passengers.
Talking about his role, Anupam said, “I wanted to play a character with a dual personality—what you see is not what really is.” He further said that the script is so well-researched that he really didn’t have to do much extra preparation. “Our director, Anubhav Sinha, held our hands through everything. He is a fun and ‘dilkush’ man. The first time I saw him, he greeted me warmly with, ‘Khanna khaya? ‘ ‘He is such a soft-spoken man’.” Anupam also praised hair-stylists and the costume department, who contributed immensely to his looks.Having a success in South Korea and now a promising Bollywood debut, Anupam Tripathi looks well on his way of being a name to reckon with.
