Salman Khan House Firing: Accused Anuj Thapan Dies by Suicide in Mumbai Police Custody
Anuj Thapan, an accused party detained in connection with the alleged home fire of Bollywood actor Salman Khan, attempted suicide on Wednesday while being held by Mumbai Police and passed away in a hospital. Using a bedsheet, the deceased 23-year-old Anuj Thapan hung himself inside the lock-up’s lavatory. He was rushed to the state-run GT Hospital, where he was declared dead during treatment, a news agency quoted an official as saying. The report further stated that the south Mumbai police station, Azad Maidan, will record an accidental death report.
The Mumbai Police detained Anuj Thapan and another accused, Sonu Subhash Chander, for allegedly providing firearms to shooters Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, who on April 14 shot many rounds of gunfire outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments in Bandra. Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi have been listed as wanted suspects in relation to the firing case, according to the Mumbai Crime Branch. After the incident, Anmol Bishnoi took to Facebook to take credit for the gunfire outside Salman Khan’s house.

The Mumbai Crime Branch said that the gunmen had made four attempts to get to Salman Khan’s home before the gunfire stopped. The Crime Branch added that they had also scouted up the actor’s farmhouse and that, as he hadn’t been there in a few days, they intended to carry out the gunfire outside of his opulent Galaxy Apartments. The detectives had earlier claimed to have recovered the handgun from the river on April 22 and to have discovered the footprint of Vicky Gupta, one of the shooters who was apprehended, while he was fleeing from Mumbai to Bhuj in Gujarat. The gunmen threw the gun into the Tapi River close to Surat, according to the Crime Branch, as they fled.
