Amit Shah Hits Back at Congress Amid Prajwal Revanna Sex Tape Controversy: ‘I Want to Tell Priyankaji…
Union Home Minister Amit Shah questioned the Congress government’s lack of action in the raging controversy surrounding sex tapes allegedly featuring Janata Dal (Secular) parliamentarian Prajwal Revanna, saying on Tuesday that the BJP is strongly in favor of “Nari Shakti” and does not tolerate the insulting of women. Amid an election-season firestorm, hours later, Prajwal, the 33-year-old grandson of JD (S) chief and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, was suspended by his party. In Karnataka, the National Democratic Alliance, led by the BJP, includes the JD(S). The ruling Congress in the southern state and its allies throughout the nation have intensified their attacks on the ruling BJP of the Center over the issue. Prajwal is the NDA contender for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat.
At a news conference in Guwahati, Assam, Shah declared, “The BJP’s position is clear: we stand with ‘Nari Shakti.'” ” The people have pledged to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he will not accept any slight to the authority of women. Nevertheless, because Congress is making accusations against us, I would like to ask them a quick question. In Karnataka, who is in charge of the government? He continued, raising doubts about the timing of the release of sleazy video clips purporting to feature Revanna. “The Congress party runs the government,” he said. Law and order, Shah said, is a state matter, and he held the Congress administration accountable for its passivity.
“Why hasn’t Congress looked at this matter yet? It is not our place to conduct an inquiry. A state concern is law and order. Priyankaji, also known as Priyanka Gandhi, is questioning us. I want to advise her: take your questions to your chief minister and deputy chief minister about what your government is doing [in Karnataka], not to Narendra Modi and me, Shah remarked in response to a tweet from Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi requesting an answer from the Prime Minister. The BJP’s ties to Prajwal and the JD(s) have raised concerns among her allies as well.
The current Hassan MP, Prajwal, has filed a complaint claiming that the tapes have been altered, although he rejects the accusations. Following the videos’ internet release, he departed for Germany. HD Revanna, his father, is also charged with this crime. He represents Holenarasipur as an MLA. “We support an investigation, and JD(S), our ally, has also declared that it will act [on Prajwal’s behalf].” Events of this nature have no place in society or public life. In these situations, strict action is necessary. Shortly before Prajwal was suspended, Shah stated, “The Bharatiya Janata Party’s position is clear, and there is no confusion.”

After purportedly recording Prajwal engaging in sexual activity with women, including government employees, on camera, the controversy broke out and was extensively shared around the Hassan area. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was then asked by the Karnataka State Commission for Women to form a special investigation team (SIT), and he issued an order for one to be conducted. Among other things, a first information report (FIR) was filed for criminal intimidation, sexual harassment, and stalking.
