Amit Shah Confirms EC Inspected His Chopper in Maharashtra: ‘BJP Committed to Fair Elections’
Union Home Minister Amit Shah disclosed on Friday that his chopper was inspected by Election Commission (EC) officials while campaigning in Maharashtra’s Hingoli constituency. “My aircraft was inspected by Election Commission authorities today as I was campaigning in Maharashtra’s Hingoli Assembly constituency. “The BJP believes in fair elections and healthy election systems, and we follow all of the rules established by the Honourable Election Commission,” Shah declared in a post on ‘X.’
He underlined the necessity of following EC norms, adding, “We all must contribute to a healthy election system and perform our duties in keeping India as the strongest democracy in the world.”
Controversy Over Checks on Opposition Leaders
After Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray voiced his anger over the EC’s decision to inspect his bags, Amit Shah’s comments sparked a political spat. Supriya Sule, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP), denounced the occurrence as “dirty politics” and claimed that opposition figures were subject to more scrutiny than government politicians. “Thackeray’s bags were checked twice, but the people in charge did not go through the same processes,” Sule said.
Eknath Shinde’s Luggage Also Inspected
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s helicopter and luggage were examined on Wednesday at the Palghar Police Ground helipad, adding to the series of high-profile inspections. As part of their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to guarantee election fairness, EC staff carried out the check. Shinde’s possessions were examined when he landed in Palghar, where he was campaigning for the next Assembly elections.
Election Commission’s Directive
To guarantee fair elections, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar recently underlined that law enforcement has been instructed to inspect all leaders’ helicopters and personal property. The goal of this measure is to keep the electoral process fair and transparent while preventing any abuse of power.
