Amit Shah Accuses Congress of Twisting Words, Calls Them Anti-Ambedkar Amid Political Storm

Home Minister Amit Shah’s controversial remark that “Ambedkar is the fashion” during a Parliamentary discussion put him at the center of a violent political storm. In response to criticism from Congress, Shah said his opponents were “anti-Ambedkar” and “anti-Constitution,” accusing them of “spreading lies” and misrepresenting his views.

“Congress Distorted My Remarks”: Shah’s Defense

Shah said at a combative news briefing that the Congress had manipulated his speech in the Rajya Sabha and twisted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements to deceive the public. “I come from a party that follows Ambedkar’s ideals,” he said. He continued, “The Congress disrespected the Army and women and even broke up the country, handing it to foreign powers.” Shah also connected constitutional infractions to previous acts by Congress. Shah said, “If Kharge thinks my resignation will solve his problems, he is mistaken,” in response to requests for his resignation, especially from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. For the next fifteen years, he will continue to be in the opposition.

PM Modi Backs Amit Shah

As the opposition’s assaults intensified, Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervened to protect Shah. Modi said on the social networking site X that the Congress was using “malicious lies” to divert attention away from their own past mistakes. “Congress has repeatedly insulted Ambedkar and attempted to erase his legacy,” said Modi.

Opposition United in Protest

Leading the charge, Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP of disdaining Ambedkar and called for Shah’s resignation. “If the PM respects Ambedkar, he must drop Shah from the Cabinet,” said Kharge. Rahul Gandhi, a Congress politician, tweeted, “The nation will not tolerate Ambedkar’s insult,” joining Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the protest. The Home Minister needs to issue an apology. The scandal went beyond Congress, as the statements were denounced by opposition parties such as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Samajwadi Party. While TMC MP Derek O’Brien filed a privilege notice against Shah in Parliament, SP’s Akhilesh Yadav characterized the comments as a manifestation of the BJP’s anxiety over Dalit movements. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, called the comment a “casteist insult to millions who revere Ambedkar.”

“Ambedkar is Fashion” Remark Sparks Outrage

During a discussion on the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, Shah made a controversial statement: “It has become the fashion to say ‘Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar.'” The opposition would guarantee their spot in paradise if they used God’s name thus frequently. The comment caused a stir, with opposition leaders calling it disrespectful to Dalit groups. Notwithstanding internal divisions, the Congress and its allies shown unity against the BJP by uniting in their criticism.

High-Stakes Meeting Amid Controversy

Rahul Gandhi and Kharge, two Congress leaders, met with Shah and Modi amid the growing dispute. The discussion, according to insiders, was centered on selecting the new head of the National Human Rights Commission and had nothing to do with the Ambedkar dispute.
