Akshay Kumar on His Marriage with Twinkle Khanna: ‘We Are Poles Apart but Respect Is Key
Akshay Kumar was married to Twinkle Khanna in 2001. Akshay and Twinkle have been married for 23 years now. The couple shares two kids, a son named Aarav, and a daughter named Nitara. However, the two share very different ideologies and barely have commonalities between them.
In an recent interview to Galatta India, Akshay said, “Me and my wife are very different. We are poles apart.”. She thinks left; I think right. Maybe the things common in us are that we both like to sleep and wake up early. One more thing that we like is playing Rummy or Ludo. Nothing else is common in us. But it’s not just that, you know. Respect—the most important thing—is to give each other space. There are 36 traits in people; not necessarily, they all have to be common in a couple. But if you have that one trait to respect each other, then, man, I think that’s enough to run with it—equivalent to having all the traits you need in a relationship.
Akshay also said that although he is personally very careful about what he says to people, Twinkle is another case altogether. He mentioned, “I believe people should keep quiet.”.

They need not comment on everything. Words can hurt you a lot. A word can hurt harder than your punch. Tongue can destroy relationships. It can create wars. You need to be very careful of what you speak. People call me diplomatic, well, be it so. I am diplomatic because my words measure before saying it to anyone. I don’t want to hurt anybody. “He added, “Even though I know a lot about you, I wouldn’t say a word. I don’t want to say anything that will give a certain image about you. My wife is quite open. If she watches a film, she will tell the producer, it’s a shit film. And I always tell, relax, don’t do that. I know she is telling the truth, but what’s the point of hurting someone.” Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay Kumar will soon be seen in Khel Khel Mein. In the film, he stars with Vaani Kapoor, Pragya Jaiswal, Taapsee Pannu, Ammy Virk, Fardeen Khan and Aditya Seal.
