Stampede-Like Situation as Hundreds of Job Seekers Flock to Interview in Mumbai: Watch Now
Tuesday at Air India Airport Services Ltd. in Mumbai’s Kalina, a large number of job applicants showed up for a walk-in interview, creating tumultuous scenes. Thousands of people are swarming the interview center, as seen in videos of the mob making the rounds on social media. Some others are also visible scaling trees and cars to get to the center more quickly. The hiring procedure was “mismanaged,” according to George Abram, general secretary of the Aviation Industry Workers Guild. For 2,216 available positions as utility agents and handymen—a person who does various repairs and maintenance duties—the Air India Airport Services has opened walk-in interviews.

“AI Airport Services Ltd (formerly known as Air India Air Transport Services Limited) (AIASL) wishes to fill existing vacancies as per the estimated requirements and maintain a wait-list for vacancies arising in the future,” the business stated in an announcement dated June 28. Male and female Indian nationals who meet the requirements listed above are eligible to apply for a variety of positions at the Mumbai International Airport. These positions are available on a Fixed Term Contract basis, with a three-year expiration date that may be extended based on performance and AI Airport Services Limited requirements. The number of openings is not fixed and could change depending on operational needs.

“The reservation will be in accordance with the Presidential Directives,” it continued. The precise number of slots reserved would depend on the strength in place at the time of the appointment. The company apparently promised that all CVs sent would be evaluated and that qualified individuals would be contacted for a follow-up process, notwithstanding the difficulties. This occurs only a few days after a comparable occurrence in Bharuch, Gujarat, where hundreds of applicants showed up for a job interview held by the chemical company Thermax Company for a mere ten open posts. Social media users also shared a video of the sizable crowd fighting to get inside the interview center.
