Adah Sharma Defends Anti-JNU Remark in ‘Bastar: The Naxal Story’ Teaser, Echoing Previous Controversy

Adah Sharma Defends Anti-JNU Remark in ‘Bastar: The Naxal Story’ Teaser, Echoing Previous Controversy

The Naxal Story, starring Adah Sharma, will be released on March 15. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) understudies exhibited against the trailer of the looming film recently, calling for “activity” against the film’s makers and entertainers. Adah has now spoken out about the uproar surrounding her anti-JNU statement in the teaser in an interview.

Adah Sharma defends her film.

Adah Sharma stated, “I want people to think that I depicted her in the strongest, most fearless, and most forceful way when I play a tough cop like Neeraj Mathur in Bastar. In the movie, I want every word I say to be believed. She is expressing her indignation at seeing the 76 Jawans murdered and hacked into bits when she claims that they were butchered and that she wants to shoot them down. Though Neerja would explain it better than me, Adah might.

Bastar: The Naxal Story—JNU Controversy

Adah Sharma, who plays a police officer in Bastar: The Naxal Story, demands that “left-leaning pseudo-intellectuals” from large cities who “side with Naxals” be executed in public. She cites JNU as the location of a scenario in which students are said to have rejoiced over the murder of CRPF officers in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, by Naxals. In February, JNU students condemned the director for “spreading dangerous propaganda and inciting violence” after they set fire to the movie’s posters as a protest. “We demand that Sudipto Sen, Adah Sharma, and Vipul Amrutlal Shah be held accountable immediately for their outspoken calls for the genocide of JNU students. Such a move toward deceiving others is illegal. On X (previously Twitter), JNU Students Union President Aishe Ghosh declared, “We appeal to our alumni and V-C to take urgent action. We will take all legal steps.”

Adah Sharma’s response to criticism of her film

In the same interview, Adah Sharma responded to those criticizing her movie by saying, “Once people watch the film, they’ll understand what it’s about.” However, as I mentioned even during The Kerala Story, it’s a democracy; viewers have the freedom to decide whether or not to watch a movie and whether or not to leave a comment. Additionally, since it’s their decision, we ought to accept individuals who are commenting without having seen the movie.”

The Kerala Story Controversy

After working together on The Kerala Story for almost a year, Vipul Shah, Sudipto Sen, and Adah Sharma are back for Bastar: The Naxal Story, which is said to be based on actual Naxal episodes that happened in Chhattisgarh. Their most recent movie, The Kerala Story, caused a stir when the trailer said that 32,000 Keralan women had vanished and joined ISIS, a terrorist organization. Nevertheless, the controversial character in the trailer was eventually removed in response to criticism. Later, the description in the trailer was modified to read, “A story of three women from Kerala.”
