AB de Villiers Set To Land India For IPL 2024, Reveals Exciting Role for the Upcoming Season

AB de Villiers has said that he will play in the T20 competition in India and has confirmed his participation in the IPL in 2024. de Villiers will arrive in India to take on the role of commentator. He left the T20 competition following the second half of the 2021 Indian Premier competition. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) legend disclosed on his YouTube page that he will be providing part-time analysis.

Before returning for the knockout stages of the 2024 Indian Premier League, the 40-year-old stated that he will be providing commentary. “Please follow our live feeds as I will be in Mumbai for the first few weeks of the IPL, providing some analysis. For the knockouts, I’ll also be back at the backend,” the South African legend said.

De Villiers also made commentary in India the previous year. He will be in the nation once more, but this time he won’t be working for a franchise. After serving as a part of the coaching staff for RCB for 11 years, de Villiers was expected to remain with the team, but he has not taken up a coaching role.

AB de Villiers’ Non-Franchise IPL Role

De Villiers will be involved in the IPL this year as well, but he won’t be attached to a team. Even after leaving the Indian Premier League, the legendary RCB player continued to be connected to the league. In May 2018, he shockingly announced his retirement from international cricket. He left the SA team to participate in three more IPL seasons. In 184 matches, de Villiers, who played for the Delhi Capitals and RCB in the IPL, amassed 5162 runs. He was never given the chance to captain an IPL squad.

The 17th Indian Premier League will begin play on March 22. In the final match of the season, the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore. In spite of the general elections, the whole Twenty20 league will take place in India.
