AAP’s Atishi Sworn In as Delhi Chief Minister: Arvind Kejriwal Resigns | Latest Updates
At a humble event held in Raj Niwas, New Delhi, Atishi—senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)— was sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister yesterday.
This makes her Delhi’s youngest ever CM. She takes over from Arvind Kejriwal who stepped down after securing bail in an alleged excise policy violation case.
AAP MLAs voted unanimously to nominate Atishi during September 17th’s meeting; President Droupadi Murmu has now rubber-stamped this decision along with those of five other ministers included in the new team.
The swearing-in ceremony remained low-key, reflecting the party’s somber mood following Kejriwal’s departure and the limited time for preparations due to delayed approvals.
Earlier this week, Kejriwal resigned as well as all his ministers. The President approved their resignation so Atishi could become the new head of Delhi’s government.
Many well-known people have jobs in this administration. For example, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Imran Hussain are back at work.
There is also a job for Mukesh Ahlawat, who represents Sultanpur Majra in the assembly for the first time.Atishi held 13 important jobs in the last government.
These included finance, education and public works. The main aim of the new government is to finish things that were not completed before next year’s elections.
These will take place in February.Gopal Rai has said that Arvind Kejriwal wants voters to think about what has happened. He said: ‘We need him back as Chief Minister.’

Rai also said politicians must keep working on older plans which have not yet become real because there is no time to start anything new!
Atishi’s government will attempt to show it has majority support in the Delhi Assembly at a critical test next month. Top of the agenda for the administration include continuing important welfare schemes — such as cash-for-work transfers under Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana (Chief Minister’s Respect for Women Scheme) — as well as initiatives that promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs): with Electric Vehicle Policy 2. 0 already announced. Then there is doorstep delivery services too: an expansion of an idea first trialled during AAP’s earlier stint in office.
