Aamir Khan Responds to Love Jihad Allegations, Shares Family’s Interfaith Marriages: ‘It’s About Humanity’

Aamir Khan

Finally, actor Aamir Khan has addressed the accusations of love jihad that arose during the release of his 2014 blockbuster PK. Aamir explained in an open interview on Aap Ki Adalat that the movie was never meant to make fun of any faith. Rather, he highlighted the film’s actual message and even used personal anecdotes to address the persistent discourse around mixed weddings.

Aamir Khan Clarifies the Message Behind PK

Responding to the criticism faced by PK, Aamir Khan explained,

“Hum kisi bhi dharm ke khilaaf nahi hain. Hum har dharm ki badi izzat karte hain. Jo dharmic log hain, unki bhi humare dil mein behad izzat hain. Jo log dharam ka galat faayda uthaate hain, aur aam insaan ko bewakoof banaate hain… usse bachne ke liye wo film thi. Aise log aapko har dharam mein milenge. Toh ye film ka yahi purpose tha ki jo log aisa kar rahe hain unse bach ke raho.”

(Translation: “We are not against any religion. We deeply respect all religions and religious people. The film was made to warn people about those who misuse religion to fool and exploit others for personal gain. Such people exist in every religion. The sole purpose of the film was to caution viewers to stay away from such exploitation.”)

Addressing Love Jihad Allegations

When questioned about love jihad accusations connected to PK, Aamir offered a heartfelt explanation.

“Sabse pehle toh main ye kahunga ki jab bhi koi log do dharam ke, ek saath aatey hain, unke man main prem hota hain aur wo shaadi karna chahte hain… har dafa woh love jihad nahi hota. Do alag-alag dharmo ke logo ka mann kabhi ho jata hain aur ye insaniyat ki baat hain. Jab do mann milte hain, toh ye dharam ke upar ho jaati hain.”

(Translation: “When people from two different religions fall in love and wish to marry, it’s not always love jihad. Sometimes, it’s simply a union of two hearts—it’s about humanity and goes beyond religion.”)

Personal Examples from Aamir Khan’s Family

Aamir provided anecdotes from his own family to bolster his position. Farhat, his younger sister, married Rajeev Dutta, and Ira Khan, his daughter, just married Nupur Shikhare. His sister Nikhat is married to Santosh Hegde. According to Aamir, these instances demonstrate that interfaith unions are often founded on affection and respect for one another, rather than religious goals.
