BCCI’s New Secretary Urged to Send Agarkar ‘Strict Message’ on Dropping Kohli and Rohit

India’s crushing defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, marking six losses in their last eight matches, has triggered a wave of concern over the team’s future. Among the pressing issues is the uncertain fate of senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to deliberate on the matter during a Special General Meeting this Sunday. Newly appointed secretary Devajit Saikia has reportedly been instructed to send chief selector Ajit Agarkar a firm directive to address this pressing dilemma and chart the course for a revamped team.

Kohli and Rohit Under Fire for Poor Form

Even before leaving for the Australia tour, which was seen as a turning point in their careers, Kohli and Rohit were criticized. With a century in Perth, Kohli shown flashes of his genius, but he only scored 90 runs in the remaining innings without hitting a half-century. Even bad was Rohit, who only managed to score 31 runs at an average of 6.2 in five innings throughout the tour. In the end, he chose not to participate in the Sydney series final. He has only amassed 164 runs at an average of little over 10 in eight games since September, which is a poor showing overall.

B CCI’s Leadership Pushes for Change

The emphasis has moved to white-ball cricket as the ICC Champions Trophy draws near and India must submit their tentative team on January 12. The persistent conjecture on the future of Rohit and Kohli, particularly in light of Rohit’s choice to skip the Sydney Test, has raised questions about the team’s trajectory. Saikia, the BCCI secretary who took Jay Shah’s place, is under pressure to seem strong and forceful while handling these issues.

Key Decisions Await in June Test Series

The BCCI has a short window of time to make significant roster changes because India’s next Test series is set for late June during their trip to England. All eyes are on whether the board will continue with the seasoned pair at the helm or usher in a new era as talks heat up. Devajit Saikia and Ajit Agarkar are expected to be crucial in determining the direction of Indian cricket in the upcoming weeks.
