Shiv Sena Demands Home Portfolio in New Maharashtra Government, Says Shirsat
Shiv Sena MLA Shirsat talked on the influence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s leadership in a recent interview with PTI. He suggested that if the CM had been granted two and a half more years in office, he might have made even greater contributions to Maharashtra’s progress. Shirsat highlighted Shinde’s good reputation and the successful plans he started, adding that the state was greatly impacted by his leadership.
The Shiv Sena should ideally be in charge of the home department, which is normally run by the deputy chief minister, Shirsat, who is the representative for the Aurangabad West assembly constituency, added. In reference to the difficulties that were developing within the Mahayuti coalition between the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP during the recent Maharashtra state elections, he declared, “The home department should be with the party (Shiv Sena).” The coalition performed well, taking 230 of the 288 seats in the legislature. The BJP took 132 seats, followed by the NCP (41) and Shiv Sena (57).
Shinde, who is now the caretaker chief minister, stated that he is prepared to back the BJP leadership’s choice of the future chief minister without posing any challenges, notwithstanding the tension. But according to insiders, Shinde was displeased with the BJP’s insistence on running for chief minister, which infuriated the Shiv Sena. Shinde’s firm leadership, especially his handling of the Maratha quota struggle, greatly increased his popularity, according to Shirsat. He said that Shinde had gained the confidence and support of the populace by taking the initiative to appease the Maratha quota agitators and that Shinde was instrumental in securing the Maratha reservation.

Shirsat also emphasized Shinde’s resuscitation of important social programs, pointing out that although such programs had existed in the past, Shinde gave them fresh vitality. He cited the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin plan, which was adopted by the government against opposition from NCP leader Ajit Pawar and was successful in the polls. In his closing remarks, Shirsat emphasized Shinde’s relatability to the average person and said that, in spite of criticism and accusations of being a “gaddar” (traitor), Shinde had made a name for himself in Maharashtra politics. He said that Shinde’s achievements would have had an even greater influence on the state if he had been given more time.
