Delhi BJP Stages Massive Protest Outside Arvind Kejriwal’s Residence Over ‘Sheesh Mahal’ Controversy
On Thursday, a major protest was staged by members of the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by President Virendra Sachdeva, outside the residence of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP is calling for explanations for the alleged excessive spending on Kejriwal’s now-famous “Sheesh Mahal” apartment. After an inventory list showed opulent improvements, such as gold-plated fittings, expensive furnishings, and pricey decorations—far more than what the Public Works Department (PWD) had provided—the controversy around the house grew.
According to PWD documents, Kejriwal’s home at 6 Flagstaff Road was not furnished with any such opulent amenities. “How did you acquire these extravagant items for ‘Sheesh Mahal’?” said Virendra Sachdeva during a news briefing on Wednesday. Was it from the Delhi Jal Board, the liquor scam, or the Punjab government? The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) responded by dismissing these claims and accusing the BJP of attempting to damage Kejriwal’s standing. The Delhi people, they fought, had the option to see through the BJP’s “false accusations” and Kejriwal’s “model” of organization was all the while growing quickly.
The change of Kejriwal’s administration loft into a lavish royal residence style home has been the subject of steady analysis from the BJP.PWD documents show that the bungalow had only the most basic furnishings when Kejriwal moved in in 2022. However, a new inventory found costly goods including carpets valued at over ₹50 lakh and chandeliers worth lakhs when he left the house in 2024.
Sachdeva asserted that the PWD only supplied necessities for everyday life following the bungalow’s 2022 restoration. However, PWD officials were taken aback by the lavish improvements seen after Kejriwal left the residence in 2024. Compared to the one-page list that the PWD prepared in 2022, the final inventory in 2024 was eight pages long and included opulent items that the PWD did not provide, such as refrigerators, high-end televisions, reclining sofas, curtains, washbasins, and toilet seats.

Vijender Gupta, the Delhi Assembly’s leader of the opposition, has written to the lieutenant governor to request a high-level inquiry into the origin of the “luxurious items” that were placed in Kejriwal’s residence. The AAP retorted, claiming that the BJP was using the investigations as a political tool against their leaders and that no misconduct had been discovered in spite of multiple investigations.
