Rohit Shetty Confirms Standalone Film on Deepika Padukone’s Lady Singham: ‘There’s A Reason…’

Although Rohit Shetty had no plans to create a cinematic universe at the moment, his voyage with the “cop universe” started with Singham (2011). With follow-ups like Singham Returns, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi, the police world has become a popular brand. Singham Again, which came out this Diwali, swiftly surpassed the ₹200 crore milestone. As the first female police officer in the universe, Deepika Padukone’s portrayal of Lady Singham, also known as Shakti Shetty, is a noteworthy aspect of Singham Again. In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Rohit Shetty discussed his reasoning for launching this character, stating that he waited to find the ideal storyline. Shetty said, “Until 2018, I wasn’t sure if there would be a cop universe.”

Lady Singham’s concept developed while Sooryavanshi was being made. “Simmba demonstrated that viewers were prepared for a larger universe when it was successful. “That’s when we decided to bring in an out-and-out lady cop,” Rohit, who is known for movies like All the Best and Bol Bachchan, continued. Rohit alluded to the possibility that, had the epidemic not caused delays, Shakti Shetty’s debut could have taken place sooner. “COVID took two years away from us. When Sooryavanshi was first scheduled for release in March 2019, the trailer received positive reviews. However, due to the delays, Singham Again’s initial release date of 2020 was pushed back,” he revealed.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra, the first female police officer in Rohit’s production, debuted earlier this year as Tara Shetty in Indian Police Force. He did clarify, though, that Tara and Shakti are in different realms. “Indian Police Force is a different intellectual property owned by Amazon, whereas the cop universe belongs to us, so there will be no crossover,” Rohit said. Regarding a stand-alone Shakti Shetty movie, Rohit acknowledged that it is in the conceptual stage but is still in the works. “We still need to write the plot arc, even though we have a basic one. We emphasized Shakti’s character in Singham Again for a reason. “There will be a female-led police movie soon,” he said.
