Khalistani Attack in Canada: Sanjay Verma Reveals Sword Came Within 2 Inches of His Body
Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Verma, who was just called back from Canada, described a terrifying incident in which Khalistani attackers attacked him and his wife in Alberta. Verma described in an interview how the assailants, whom he called “goons,” were armed with a sword (which he distinguished from the holy sign ‘kirpan’) as they got dangerously close to hurting him. “Yes, on a few occasions, they were quite near to hurting us physically. It was a sword, not a kirpan, that they were carrying. In Alberta, a blade came within two to three inches of my body,” Verma recalled, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
Verma clarified that the purpose of the cultural performances at the dinner party he was attending was to promote economic ties between Canada and India. There were about 150 people outside the venue, he said, protesting under the Khalistan banner and gathered around the exit gate he had to use. Verma observed that the police were unprepared for such violent behavior, even though the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and local law enforcement were there.

“I was going with my wife. There was a sword when I passed. They could not understand the distinction between a kirpan and a sword. We Indians, however, who have witnessed Sikhism, are aware of the distinction. Still trembling after the experience, he said, “This was a sword, which came about 2 to 2.5 inches away from my body.” There was questioning by local police after the attack, but Verma said he was not given any information about the inquiry.
