Miss India 2024 Winner Nikita Porwal: “Feminism Can Also Mean Cooking for Your Husband”
Nikita Porwal, a 22-year-old from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, rose to fame overnight after taking home the Miss India World title last week. She calls the changes in her life “surreal,” and her incredible journey from modest origins to the international stage is only getting started. “My life has completely turned upside down and things have altered for me. I had 1,700 followers when I first started, and now the number keeps increasing with each refresh. I feel much more accountable today, and it goes beyond Instagram. I have the responsibility of representing authentic India on a global scale and the expectations of the entire nation,” she said.
As Nikita reflected on the moment Miss India 2023 Nandini Gupta put the crown on her head, she was incredibly grateful. “I was thankful to the audience, the judges who selected me as Miss India 2024, my parents, and the Lord.” Without their help, I know it would not have been possible.
Redefining Beauty Standards
It’s common to receive criticism after winning a beauty pageant, particularly when it comes to the focus on physical looks. In response, Nikita said, “Miss Femina is more than just a symbol of beauty. We have emphasized the value of “Beauty With a Purpose” for 60 years. While knowledge remains with you, your nation, and its citizens even after you are gone, beauty fades with time. Wittiness, knowledge, and patriotism should be the hallmarks of true beauty.
A Daughter’s Dedication
Nikita, who comes from a modest upbringing, talked about how her parents have always encouraged her to pursue her goals. “I have a modest upbringing. My parents are still in Ujjain, but I migrated to Mumbai to pursue my dreams. I want them to feel proud of me because they hear what people have to say about them. It’s difficult to pursue an entertainment career, but I’ve always wanted to be known by my name, and it’s beginning to happen,” she smiled.
Inspired by Aishwarya Rai
Nikita is influenced by Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai. She exemplifies the Miss World slogan of “beauty with a purpose,” which goes beyond simply being a beautiful person. I aspire to become as strong as she is. “Her portrayal of India on the international scene is amazing,” Nikita said.
Despite her love of acting and seven years of theater experience, she explained that her current emphasis is getting ready for the 2026 Miss World pageant. “I won’t hesitate to pursue a career in movies if the chance presents itself. Why not pursue my dream of being an actor?
Empowering Future Generations
In terms of the influence of pageants, Nikita thinks they are essential venues for those from lowly origins. “People like me who don’t have a godfather in the industry are supported and empowered by it. It offers opportunities because I don’t have any important relationships.
Nikita also wishes to inspire young girls who may be considering a career in beauty pageants. “I would counsel them to decide for themselves whether they want to compete in beauty pageants, work in a corporate setting, or stay at home and raise a family. Feminism has evolved to include more than simply corporate jobs. At times, being a housewife may be a choice. Doing what you want to do is the definition of a true feminist. If you set your mind to it, you can become anything you desire.

Nikita stressed the honor of representing India as she prepares for the Miss World pageant. “As a genuinely patriotic and proud Indian, I am thrilled to represent my nation internationally. Being the Indian representative makes me a little anxious, but my parents are there to support and encourage me. We’ll win together and take home the crown.
