Navya Naveli Nanda Addresses Trolling Over IIM Ahmedabad Admission: ‘I Accept That…’
At the India Today Mumbai Conclave 2024, Navya Naveli Nanda talked about dealing with online bullies as a young person on social media. She is Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter. The session she was part of asked: “Beyond the Legacy: Gen Z for a Just and Equal India.” Navya said social media has good and bad points.
It lets lots of different people say things, which can be amazing. On one hand, she explained, the platforms give voice to those who might not otherwise be heard very widely. Talking about what these apps and sites can do if lots of users get together behind something, she called them “a fantastic tool.” And for anyone building a professional profile (like her), they’re unbeatable: “It’s been a great space for me to show off my work,” she said. Used well, there are endless possibilities, including changing society for the better.
Navya was thankful for her academic experience at IIM Ahmedabad, one of India’s best schools. She said, “India has many excellent educational institutions around the world, so being here is amazing!” She also feels very lucky to learn from some top professors in their field. As well as studying there full-time, Navya runs a social project called Project Naveli, and she believes getting feedback from ordinary members of the public is vital.
“If I want to help these people,” she explained, “I’ve got to be open to their views.” An important aspect of feedback is criticism that aims to be helpful (rather than just nasty), which Navya finds necessary if she is to develop both personally and professionally while remaining a good Indian citizen: ”

Commenting on the criticism frequently directed at her, Navya recognized the fact that she comes from a privileged background; however, she defended her dedication to achieving her own goals both professionally and personally. “I know that what I’ve lived is different, and people are going to have opinions about it,” she said. “But,” she continued, “what’s most important to me is my work and continuing to better myself.” She ended by saying, “Negative comments don’t get to me; they just make me want to do even better on my path.”
