Why Ashneer Grover Quit EY in Just One Day Despite ₹1 Crore Salary Package
On social media, an old video of Ashneer Grover—a judge on Shark Tank India and the former CEO of BharatPe—has resurfaced, sparking discussions about toxic working climates.
Additionally, billionaire Harsh Goenka voiced his opinion, denouncing Grover for what appears to be support of a toxic workplace.
Grover, who received a ₹1 crore package, talks about why he left Ernst & Young (EY) after just one day in the now-viral video.
He admits that upon arriving at the office, he pretended to have chest pain to exit the job immediately. He called the staff members “Zinda leash (living corpses)” and said the office atmosphere was too boring.
Grover stated that he thought the best workplaces were those were people were “fighting” all the time. In a contentious statement, he said, “If someone says an office has a toxic culture, then that one is the best),” highlighting the fact that here is where actual work is accomplished.
Harsh Goenka joined the X (formerly Twitter) discourse following the outcry this video caused. Goenka used the hashtag #AnnaPerayil, which has gained attention after the tragic death of 26-year-old EY Pune employee Anna Sebastian Perayil.
He slammed Grover’s views, calling them startling and wrote, “It’s baffling to see anyone advocate for a toxic environment.”
Rajiv Memani, Chairman of EY India, has now refuted her mother’s claims that her daughter’s death was caused by overwork.
The re-released video has received more than 1.5 lakh views and elicited a range of responses on social media. Grover was teased by several users, who said things like, “The toxic places only got rid of him to detoxify!””As an ex-EY, I feel the work culture is extreme, and not everyone can handle it,” one user shared in a discussion about the realities of the workplace culture.
Harsh Goenka has already come under fire for remarks he made on social media. His recent suggestion in a post that individuals should save ₹600 a day caused a stir. Many people accused him of being disconnected from the everyday financial struggles that ordinary people confront.
