Two Army Officers Attacked, Female Friend Raped Near Picnic Spot in Madhya Pradesh
Two young Indian Army officers and their two women friends were brutally attacked during a picnic in the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, a report said.
The police said the two officers, aged 23 and 24 years, undergoing the Young Officers (YO) course at the Infantry School in Mhow, had gone out for the picnic along with their friends when the attack took place.
The group had gone to a picnic spot on the Mhow-Mandleshwar road when 6-7 unidentified men reached the spot around 2 am and started beating one of the officers and a woman sitting in a car. The shrieks raised an alarm for the other officer and the woman who had gone to a nearby hillock.
They reportedly held the officer and woman in the car hostage at gunpoint and demanded ₹10 lakh ransom. Profiting from such a situation, the second officer was somehow able to call his seniors in Mhow, who in turn called the police. A police team immediately rushed to the spot, but the accused had fled before their arrival.
The victims were taken to Mhow civil hospital, where a medical examination confirmed that one of the women had indeed been raped.
A case has been registered under Sections 70 (gang rape), 310-2 (dacoity), 308-2 (extortion), 115-2 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and also relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rupesh Dwivedi has identified six suspects, of which two have been arrested. Indore Rural SP Hitika Vasal said that one of the arrested men has a pending case of loot in 2016.
