Centre Approves ₹2,817 Crore Digital Agriculture Mission to Boost Farming Sector

The Centre gave the green signal for the Digital Agriculture Mission, with an outlay of ₹ 2,817 crore, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Monday.

“Today, the Cabinet has taken seven key decisions towards improving the condition of farmers and increasing their income,” he told a news conference.

“One is the Digital Agriculture Mission, which is being developed on the lines of Digital Public Infrastructure for agriculture. We have already seen the success of some promising pilots. On this, we will create the Digital Agriculture Mission with a total investment of ₹2,817 crore.”

Other big announcements

Besides the Digital Agriculture Mission, Minister Vaishnaw enumerated several other key decisions of the Cabinet meeting. “The second decision relates to food and nutritional security. This program is to the tune of ₹3,979 crore.

It had scientific inputs to groom our farmers for the year 2047, keeping their main emphasis on climate-resilient crop sciences with a guarantee of food and nutritional securities.

It has been designed upon six pillars,” he explained. The Cabinet gave the green signal for ₹860 crore for a major scheme in horticulture regarding sustainable development.

Construction of Krishi Vigyan Kendra was another feature of it, which had an estimated fund utilization of ₹1,202 cr, and Natural Resource Management proceeded with ₹1,115 cr estimated grant-in-aid.

The Centre has also approved ₹1,702 cr scheme for sustainable livestock health and production.
