Amitabh Bachchan Schools KBC Contestant on Women’s Worth, Delivers Powerful Message Against Gender Stereotypes
In the recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16, the iconic host Amitabh Bachchan proved once again why he is a legendary actor but also a guiding star when it comes to wisdom. In the recent episode, a latest contestant Krishna Selukar sparked controversy when he drew an analogy about his unemployment to society looking at a woman who is unmarried as a “burden”. He said, “Agar mei kahu bina shadi ki ladki gharwalo par bojh hoti hai na sir, ek umar hone ke baad berozgar ladke utna hi bojh hote hai,” which means that if he says a girl without marriage is a burden on her family, then after some age, an unemployed boy is in the same position.
Big B is known for his cool demeanor and enlightening insights, thus didn’t let this comment pass by. He quickly intervened and asked the contestant, “Ladki joh hai bojh kabhi nai ban sakti. Bahut badi shaan hoti hai mahila” which, when translated, means “A woman can never be a burden on the family.”. She is always an honor.” Thus, he said in such a powerful response to everybody’s applause, underlining the invaluable worth of women in society by challenging deep-rooted gender stereotypes still at large.
Since the beginning of Kaun Banega Crorepati in 2000, Amitabh Bachchan has been associated with it. Well, almost always except for the third season, where Shah Rukh Khan had hosted the game show. The popular game show roared back this month on Sony TV running over millions of hearts. Bachchan ran an emotional message at the opening of the first episode of Season 16, where he thanked the audience for constantly being with him throughout his episodes.
“A new season begins today. But few words from my side today. And that’s because no word has the capacity to convey the gratitude for your love,” he said in Hindi. He further said, “I cannot find the words to thank you for your prayers, and which gave a new life to Kaun Banega Crorepati, which illuminated this stage again and reunited a family, and which allowed me to be present among you. I salute this country’s people for resurrection, rebuilding, and rebirth of KBC.”

On the film front, Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in Kalki 2898 AD and will star alongside Deepika Padukone in the Hindi remake of The Intern, all but reigning further in Indian films.
