Bengali Actress Payel Mukherjee Attacked in Kolkata; Watch Shocking Video of Her in Tears Amid Protests

On Kolkata’s Southern Avenue, a bike-borne thug attacked Bengali starlet Payel Mukherjee in a horrifying event. Shaken Payel is in tears. The miscreant has shattered the car window.

She took to social media to share her harrowing experience with the whole world watching live as she cried while reliving that sudden, unprovoked attack. Thankfully, the perpetrator has been arrested and an in-depth probe is underway.

This attack has come at a time when the city of Kolkata has been on tenterhooks over the recent rape and murder of a female doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital during the early hours of 9 August.

The city is already witnessing widespread protests for justice and more stringent safety measures for women. Shock expressed across all sections, people rallied to immediate action and better security.

Prominent personalities have come out in solidarity with the protests. Former BCCI president and criticized for his statement that RGKMCH incident not a big issue, Sourav Ganguly joined a candlelight vigil along with his daughter Sana.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, who time and again raises his voice regarding issues of law and order in Bengal, too joined and said that Rape as a political tool was rampant and it needed systemic changes.

The Bengali film and music fraternities have also extended full support. Actors like Kaushik Sen, Saswata Chatterjee, Paoli Dam, and Churni Ganguly took part in the processions along with protesters, while musicians such as Imon Chakraborty, Rupam Islam, and Mir Afsar Ali raised their voices in support.

Director Srijit Mukherjee, who joined the protests, said that “the movement involves a very personal element” since his mother was a doctor. “My mother is a doctor… that’s why it’s personal for me,” he said, underlining the dire need for better and more stringent safety measures for people who sacrifice their lives in serving people.
