Samantha Ruth Prabhu Reacts to Kolkata Rape and Murder Case, Calls for Immediate Change
Samantha Ruth Prabhu has joined the chorus of outrage that is fast growing over the Kolkata rape-and-murder case that has shaken the country. The actress shared her views at an event in Mumbai on Tuesday, where she was quizzed on the safety of women amid the horrific crime. Samantha did not mince any words while expressing her concern—the safety of women now needed to be put on top priority.
“It is the need of the hour, and we are really looking forward to some change. It is the need of the hour. Hope the change comes really soon,” says Samantha to reporters here during the World Pickleball event. Her comments were a mirror of the national outcry over stringent and efficient measures for protecting women in the country.
Samantha is not alone in her outcry. Last night itself, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Preity Zinta reacted to the issue in anger. Kareena expressed her anger saying it has been 12 years since Nirbhaya happened, but nothing changed. “12 years later, the same story, the same protest. But we’re still waiting for change,” she wrote.
Preeti Zinta said that it was “heartbreaking” and “disgusting.” She wanted urgent action to take precedence with regard to women’s safety, strict punishment to the likes of these perpetrators.

Another prominent voice, Hrithik Roshan, advocated heavy punishment for the accused. He said that while societal change may have to wait a long time, immediate justice requires severe consequences which would deter future crimes. “Right now, justice would be to put a hard stop to such atrocities. And the only way to do that is a punishment so harsh that it scares the living daylights out of such perpetrators. That’s what we need,” he wrote on social media platform X.
Other Bollywood stars, like Kangana Ranaut, who demanded a CBI probe, have also expressed anger and demanded justice to the victim. Alia Bhatt drew comparisons with the Nirbhaya case and said that even after a decade, the situation has remained same, and women continue to face brutal violence. The collective voice of celebrities itself shows the urge that is needed for changing these systemic issues to protect women and make them safe in India.
