Mumbai Rain: Police Issue Advisory as IMD Declares Red Alert Amid Heavy Showers – Schools to Remain Open

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a “red alert” until 8.30am on Friday, therefore the Mumbai Police issued a warning on Thursday urging people to stay indoors until absolutely necessary. All of the local institutions and schools, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, will open as usual on Friday. According to reports, the IMD issued a red signal for the morning of July 26th, indicating a day full of thunderstorms and exceptionally high rainfall. The warning was sent out as the city prepared for further traffic jams, flooding, and delays in public transportation caused by the heavy rain.

“A Red alert has been issued by the IMD for Mumbai until 8.30 a.m. tomorrow. Please stay inside unless absolutely necessary, all Mumbai residents. On X, the Mumbai Police stated, “Please keep safe. In the event of an emergency, the advise asked locals to dial 100. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated late Thursday evening that the weather and rainfall in Mumbai are normal and that educational institutions will operate normally on Friday, despite the Mumbai Police having issued a warning for heavy rain throughout the entire city on Friday.

Mumbai’s current weather and precipitation are typical, making daily living in the big city easy. Consequently, tomorrow, Friday, July 26, 2024, all schools and colleges within the boundaries of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will continue to operate normally. The BMC announced this on X. “We respectfully ask parents to rely solely on official information from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and not to believe any other information or rumors regarding school and college holidays. For further information, the local council advised residents to maintain contact with the administration of the relevant schools and colleges.

Rain battered parts of suburban Mumbai on Thursday, resulting in almost a dozen flights being cancelled and ten being diverted to adjacent locations. Local rail services were delayed yesterday, according to municipal authorities, due to waterlogging on train tracks and stations. There was 44 mm of rain in Mumbai city, 90 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 89 mm in the western suburbs during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Thursday. Streets remained submerged, allowing rainwater to pour into homes, while flooded roadways severely impeded transportation.
